Living as Form (The Nomadic Version)
Social practice is a much debated strain of contemporary art that challenges the assumed boundaries between art and life. Living as Form sets out—through an online archive, conferences and presentations, exhibitions and events—to survey this uneven terrain through providing a preliminary overview, incorporating perspectives from over a dozen international curators. Lead curator Nato Thompson describes the projects included as “cultural practices …that emphasize participation, challenge power, and span disciplines ranging from urban planning and community work to theater, the visual arts, and civic-minded nonprofit organizations.” Living as Form (The Nomadic Version) is co-organized by Creative Time and Independent Curators International (ICI), and assembled in collaboration with Kadist Art Foundation. It is the flexible, expanding iteration of Living as Form , an exhibition curated by Nato Thompson in the fall of 2011 in New York City. At Kadist, the nomadic version will unfold over the course of the following spring in a series of screenings, talks, and participatory events organized by independent curator Christina Linden.
