Javier Téllez Catalogue Launch

Saturday, January 31, 5pm Join us for the release of Javier Téllez’s new monograph Games Are Forbidden in the Labyrinth . This remarkable 196-page publication expands on Téllez’s recent exhibitions at SFAI and REDCAT , Los Angeles. The publication is a coproduction between Roma Publications , REDCAT, SFAI, and Kadist. It features essays by Ruth Estévez, Dieter Roelstraete, Hesse McGraw, and a contribution by the artist made especially for this publication. The exhibition and book represent several years of research exploring psychiatric confinement, surveillance architecture, and the game of chess as strategically interrelated systems. Games Are Forbidden in the Labyrinth opens new space for play across formerly closed systems and inverts the power dynamics between surveillance tower and cell.
