Artistic director of the 32bis in Tunis, Camille Lévy Sarfati is in residence at KADIST for the whole month of April. She will present a point of view on the young Tunisian video art scene in two weeks. This evening of screenings will present the work of four artists and will be accompanied by a concert and a discussion about the current socio-political context in Tunisia (in French). In a dark period and in the face of pessimism, what can we hope for? What room is left for dreams and how can we resist? It will also be an opportunity to discover “Abstract Reality” , our new display of works from the collection. Open visit of the space & Concert: Richard Sears (pianist and composer) et Imed Alibi (percussionist) Younès Ben Slimane Younès Ben Slimane is an artist, filmmaker and architect. In 2020, he joined Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains. His training as an architect has a major influence on his approach as an artist. Working through film, video, drawing and installation, he establishes a permanent dialogue between architecture and visual arts, where different mediums coexist and reflect their potentialities and limits. He has participated in contemporary art events including Documenta fifteen Mobile Lab (Germany). His work has been shown at the Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles in Paris (France) and the Mucem in Marseille (France) among others. His films have been selected in international festivals including Locarno Film Festival, CPH:DOX and DokuFest. His work is part of the collections of art institutions and museums including the IAC at Villeurbanne/Rhône-Alpes (France) and the MACBA – Barcelona (Spain). Sahar El Echi Sahar El Echi lives and works in Tunis. She is a visual artist, filmmaker and researcher in film studies. She studied graphic design and communication at the Institut Supérieur des Beaux-arts de Tunis (ISBAT). Director of independent films as well as various videos selected at several national and international festivals, her work examines the relationship between the individual and his environment and attempts to make plastic, aesthetic and political reflections resonate. A film programmer, she was also a member of the selection committee of the Malmö Arab Film Festival (2022), and recently directed the first Critics’ Week of the Journées Cinématographiques de Carthage. Sahar is a recipient of the CAORC/MELLON Foundation for Modern Art in the Maghreb scholarship and has been selected for several programs such as the Documentary Film Methods at the Danish Film School (2019) and the Beirut Talents and Durban Talents. Wafa Lazhari Wafa Lazhari is a Tunisian architect, artist and filmmaker. Her artistic practice is born from the conceptual approach she experimented during her architectural studies. Between real image and computer generated image, she explores the in-between where reality and illusion are blurred. The interval that exists between two different temporalities, and what intertwines them and justifies them. She was part of several art events in Tunisia including Jaou Tunis, Gabes Cinema Fen and Dreamcity. Her work has also been exhibited at the Archaeological Museum of Sousse. In 2022 her film was laureate of the Ciné Par’court program, which allowed her to be part of the METHEXIS Project in Rome. Her film has been selected in international festivals such as Annecy film festival (France) and Medfilm festival (Italy). Achref Toumi Achref Toumi is a film director. He lives and works in Tunis, where he is completing his master’s degree in filmmaking at the École Supérieure de l’Audiovisuel et du Cinéma (ESAC). His family, his roots, Tunisia and the aesthetics of the country are at the heart of his practice, which he describes as a way of saving or archiving things that disappear. He has made three short documentaries presented in different festivals, such as the Gabés Cinema Fen Festival (Tunisia, 2022), the International Amateur Film Festival of Kélibia (Tunisia, 2022), the Carthage Film Days (Tunisia, 2020), Vision du réel (Switzerland 2023), Ortometraggi Film Festival (Italy, 2021), and Scout Film Festival (Boston, Ma, 2020). He is currently preparing a new short fiction film and a video installation project.
