Dead angles (Lost bills)

Kadist Art Foundation is pleased to announce its inaugural exhibition with a solo show by Cuban artist Wilfredo Prieto on October 26th. Following a six month residency, Wilfredo Prieto will present, for the first time in France, the installation Apolitico accompanied by an ensemble of works at the Foundation. Apolitico is part of the program of contemporary art works presented by the Louvre and FIAC installed in the Tuileries Gardens, from October 24th to 30th. The work is composed of 60 national flags altered by Wilfredo Prieto in such a way that he keeps the exact design but replaces their appropriate colours with a greyscale. With this simple gesture, the artist questions the difference of identities and revokes the principle of belonging and recognition through national symbols. This particular piece is emblematic of Wilfredo Prieto’s approach and critical position. His work is often the results of discreet modification of mundane objects such as plants, plastics cup or fans. These subtle interventions are so minimal that they sometimes produce a mimetic image within which the artistic gesture is almost imperceptible. In such a way a reflection or an inherent contradiction contained in the everyday image of the object is generated. ‘The link between art and reality is particularly important to me. The artist is more a discoverer, an archaeologist who reaffirms and underlines symbolic nuances that are already present in reality.’ (Wilfredo Prieto, La Habana, February 2006) Besides Apolitico , Kadist Art Foundation presents two new works made during the artist’s residency. Other works, films and documentation of previous installations and performances will be assembled in a documentation space. The installation Apolitico was presented and produced by Kadist Art Foundation. It was was realised with the support of DOUBLET.
