What Was Contemporary Art?

A conversation with Richard Meyer and Julia Bryan-Wilson. Celebrating the publication of What Was Contemporary Art? by MIT Press, KADIST will host the author Richard Meyer, and art historian and critic Julia Bryan-Wilson for a wide-ranging discussion of contemporary art, both present and past. They’ll consider the problems and pleasures of frequent-flyer scholarship and curating, and their unique and often queer approach to art and visual culture in the context of university teaching, contemporary art criticism, guest curating, and arts advocacy. Julia Bryan-Wilson is Associate Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art in the History of Art Department at U. C. Berkeley where she serves as interim director of the Arts Research Center. Richard Meyer is Robert and Ruth Halperin Professor in Art History at Stanford University, where he serves as faculty chair of the Stanford-in-Washington (Arts) program. Event at 3pm
