Superusurpedsupper A performance by jugedamos (Jurgis Paškevi?ius, Géraldine Longueville, David Bernstein). With works by: Eduardo Arroyo, Joseph Beuys, Maurizio Cattelan, Peter Coffin, Jules-Aimé Dalou, Thea Djordjadze, Ryan Gander, Július Koller, Benoît Maire, Ursula Mayer, Nicolas Matranga, Jean-Luc Moulène, Pratchaya Phinthong, and Tobias Rehberger. 20, 21, 22 February 2013 Nomas Foundation Viale Somalia 33 – 00199 Rome Each performance will begin at 19.30 Supperusurpedsupper is the first edition of ‘Collecting Matters, an exchange’, a joint project initiated by Nomas Foundation, Kadist Art Foundation, and David Roberts Art Foundation. The project investigates the notions of collection/collecting through a discursive and on-going research platform. Superusurpedsupper is a storytelling performance by the artists jugedamos featuring artworks from the collections of the three foundations. The artworks are sources of inspiration translated into speeches, gestures, and props for the creation of a linguistic choreography. The performance tells the story of a journey to the Ganek mountain, the place where artist Július Koller founded and directed the U. F. O. Gallery Ganek — a fictive gallery that allowed him to communicate with the unknown cosmic world . To find the gallery, jugedamos climb the cosmic peak with the help of other artworks, which over the course of the expedition, turn into a compass, a map, a torch, a clock, a fireplace, a companion, a game of white stones & red gloves, and a pizza theory. This is a journey on live, using and manipulating the physical artworks – some of them authentic and some of them recreated. Through conversations, readings and songs, jugedamos explore how an art piece can be extended and reinterpreted. They question the borders between art and tool, authenticity and fake, and between individual authorship and shared creation. A libretto on sale will contain the script of the performance and a list of the art pieces by order of appearance. About jugedamos: Jugedamos is a collaborative pun by Jurgis Paškevi?ius, Géraldine Longueville, and David Bernstein that plays according to the context where it’s hosted. Coming from different backgrounds and countries, the artists produce a new language that accepts the looseness of both understanding and misunderstanding. Rather than pushing out the misunderstandings, they choose to bring these serendipitous moments to the forefront and use them as tools to lead them further on in their investigations. Collecting Matters, an exchange, is an ongoing project initiated by Nomas Foundation, Kadist Art Foundation, and David Roberts Art Foundation, offering their collections as a research tool, to develop an exchange on notions of collection / collecting through an interdisciplinary curatorial fellowship. Each Foundation fosters a significant collection, featuring leading contemporary artists, and shares a common interest in supporting the development of contemporary artistic and curatorial practices. For the first episode of Collecting Matters : an exchange, an interdisciplinary curatorial workshop was held in Rome from 2 to 6 July 2012. The participant scholars, from arts courses of three international postgraduate programs schools (Curating the Contemporary, London Metropolitan University &Whitechapel Gallery, London, UK; Fine Arts Sandberg Institute, Amsterdam NL; Design and Production of Visual Arts IUAV Venice, IT), were selected through a call promoted by the three foundations, and spent a one week research period in Rome. The aim of the workshop was to analyze the history of collection and to encourage new ways of thinking, sharing and producing knowledge about collections in time. Following the workshop, one of the scholars had the opportunity to produce a project that develops an individual research through the presentation of the collections in the Foundations’ premises.
