Société Anonyme: Week 4

Société Anonyme: Week 4 February 25 – March 2, 2008 Friday, February 29 at 7.30 pm “Four Books ” Elodie Royer and Yoann Gourmel, curators of the exhibition « 220 jours » (8.09.2007 – 15.04.2008, GB agency, 20 rue Louise Weiss, Paris 13) are invited to produce an extension of their exhibition in the form of a representation, based on four different books recently published by the artists they collaborate with. Four editorial policies with authors and editors whose practices are reflected in Section 7 Books (the artists will be present). “Black Maria”, Isabelle Cornaro, Editions MER, Ghent, 2008 “Théâtre de Poche : volume 1”, Aurélien Froment, Project Press, Dublin, 2007 “What is Consciousness ?”, Benoît Maire, Revolver Verlag, Francfort, 2007 “En milieu continu”, Raphaël Zarka, erban, Nantes, 2007 Where one discovers a complex discursive situation, of which books are more the object than the consequence. A book is not a fixed object. It is sensitive and modified by what it said about it, including during a conversation. Rather than presenting all four books during a discussion framing their content, Elodie Royer and Yoann Gourmel have decided, in collaboration with the artists, to construct a situation corresponding to a series of sequences: the books becoming the origin or the outcome of these sequences. The books will be less the subject of this event than its starting point, a pretext for different speech sequences, screenings or lectures. Each one will then be considered in terms of its singularity, but also in terms of the place it occupies within the general artistic process of its author, and the network of relationships that the books establish between one another. The installation « Les Renseignements Généraux, vol. 3 » by Mark Geffriaud will be presented on this occasion as well. http://220jours.blogspot.com Sunday, March 2 “Un groupe comme les autres” (New York / Berlin) New York-based artists Ayreen Anastas and Rene Gabri and Berlin-based Columbian artist François Bucher form the collective “Un groupe comme les autres” that they set up for “Société Anonyme”. The three of them will spend a week in Paris to pursue the work initiated in Spring 2007 during their first residency in Paris for “Société Anonyme”. Since then, Un groupe comme les autres has been working on a feature film that is both a re-editing and a reworking of Jean Rouch and Edgar Morin’s Chronicle of a Summer (1961). Collaborating with philosopher E. Morin and using unexploited sound and footage from the original film, they plan to complete this project early 2009 after conducting a new series of interviews in the streets of Paris. Permanently in the exhibition: Casco publications at the bookstore: Following the dinner with Emily Pethick, we foreground the publications of Casco Office for Art, Design and Theory (Utrecht): Casco issues, new books by Luca Frei, Martin Beck… www.cascoprojects.org
