Michael Linares

In this interview, Michael Linares talks about and from the “Museum of the Stick” a collection of objects with different uses that share the popular and ancient shape. In it, Michael discusses his initial interest in working with the stick, how it is a physical manifestation of the metaphor and one of the oldest occasional tools used by humans and how it has survived and evolved to be such a basic shape with which we interact everyday. He talks about his internet investigation to create the video “An Aleatory History of the Stick” which was made following practices from archaeological field techniques. He also discusses the video “The way of the Makapansgat”, the first material signs of empathy, as well as the conversion of things into objects. The Museum, its collection and a video collage made from youtube videos was shown at La Casa del Sargento, a project space run by Beta-Local, in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.
