Jennifer Teets
Jennifer Teets (Houston, Texas, 1978) is a curator interested in conceptual potlatch, future renaissance, and hybrid systems. She currently lives and works between New York City and Paris. From 2003 to 2007, she served as the Chief Curator of Contemporary Art at the Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros (the former house/studio of the late Mexican Muralist David Alfaro Siqueros) in Mexico City where she initiated her practice in the early 2000s. There, she curated over 20 site-specific, one-person exhibitions and performances by emerging and established Mexican and international artists. She was Resident Curator at Platform Garanti CAC in Istanbul in the fall/winter of 2007-2008 under the auspices of the Jumex Collection and the Patronato de Arte Contemporáneo (PAC) from Mexico City. At the 10th International Istanbul Biennial, she co-organized a miniature version of the “Blackmarket for Useful Knowledge and Non-Knowledge” (a project by Hannah Hurtzig/Mobile Academy, Berlin) with Anselm Franke and Pelin Tan, with the Istanbul edition focusing on moods, gestures and atmospheric politics. In the winter/spring of 2010, she will launch a “situational societal workshop” amongst thinkers, creators, and writers on the grounds of the mannerist garden of Villa d’Este in Italy, focusing on baroque special effects in the machines of the Jesuit polymath Athanasius Kircher, leading up to a handmade book to be made at the Museo Didattico del Libro Antico on the Villa’s grounds. In the spring of 2009, she formed part of the Visiting Faculty at the California College of the Arts’ (CCA) graduate program in Curatorial Studies in San Francisco.
