Il festival del proletario giovanile al Parco Lambro
Friday, November 23, at 7pm Rossella Biscotti and Marco Scotini present: Il festival del proletario giovanile al Parco Lambro (1976) a documentary by Alberto Grifi. 30’ subtitled in English. In 1976, the Parco Lambro Festival in Milan became the main event of the so-called Proletariato Giovanile (Proletarian Youth) movement. These were youths who, disappointed by the parties’ politics, turned to counter-cultures. Grifi was hired by the festival organizers in order to film the concerts that took place. However, during those four days he recorded the anti-establishment atmosphere, the debates and confrontations that brought into conflict the festival organizers with the youths, that started with a disagreement over the price of the food sold on site. The documentary of the Il festival del proletariato giovanile al Parco Lambro is one of the few recorded testimonies to reflect the main struggle issues of that generation, their attempts at political organization and the new needs and requirements that were claimed. It’s an ongoing, itinerant atlas of various contemporary resistance tactics: from direct action to counter-information, constituent practices, and forms of bio-disobedience. Dedicated to the relationship between artistic and activist practices, it’s a user’s guide to the geography of social disobedience: from the Italian social struggles of 1977 to global protests, before and after Seattle through to the current insurrections in the Middle East and the Arab world. The Italian movement of 1977, with which the Archive opens, is not only a political anticipation with regard to social disobedience but also with regard to a correspondent form of mediatisation. The Italian underground cinema pioneer Alberto Grifi is one of the key figures of this anticipation. He is the Director of the Department of Visual, Performing and Multimedia Arts and Director of the MA of Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies at NABA in Milan. He is Editor-in-Chief of the magazine No Order – Art in a Post-Fordist Society (Archive Books, Berlin), and Director of the Gianni Colombo Archive (Milan). He is one of the founding members of Isola Art and Community Center in Milan. His writings can be found in periodicals such as Moscow Art Magazine, Springerin, Flash Art, Domus, Manifesta Journal, Brumaria, Chto Delat?/What is to be done?, and Alfabeta. His most recent exhibitions include the ongoing project Disobedience Archive (Berlin, Mexico DF, Nottingham, Bucharest, Atlanta, Boston, Umea, Copenhagen, 2005-2012), A History of Irritated Material (Raven Row, London 2010) and Gianni Colombo (Castello di Rivoli, Turin, 2009), co-curated with Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev.
