Sergio De La Torre in conversation with Ignacio Valero

Sergio De La Torre screened an excerpt from a still-in-production video project focusing on Chinese immigrants living in Northern Mexico. “Social housing is one tangible example of the Mexican government’s role as mediator of tensions between the state’s interests on one hand, and the necessities of the laboring class on the other. This building (top left) had been abandoned for many years. In the last 5 years Chinese families have legally occupied it.” The screening was followed by a conversation with professor, poet, and cultural theorist Ignacio Valero. Also on view was Sergio De La Torre’s “This is not in spanish”, 2011.
