Presente, presente, presente – Festival de Performance de Cali

During the week after the the 8th Festival de Performance de Cali (20-24 November 2012), San Francisco will become the setting of a multi-venue series of events organized by the Cali-based collective Helena Producciones (Wilson Díaz, Claudia Patricia Sarria-Macías, Ana María Millán, Andres Sandoval Alba, and Gustavo Racines). In the frame of Here, There, and Elsewhere: Assembling Communities, the public program of the exhibition “Six Lines of Flight” at SFMOMA, Kadist Art Foundation and the Visible project announce the Presente, presente, presente – Festival de Performance de Cali in San Francisco, an open call for actions and performative gestures that emphasize visual commentaries on urgent social issues. The event will bring the spirit of the Helena Producciones’ Festival de Performance to the Bay area, reaching out for all those performers and artists engaged with the potential of performance art in the urban sphere. Kadist SF will host the live presentation of proposals by 10 semi-finalists, the finalists will be then highlighted during an event on the 2nd of December under the auspices of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s program. The Colombian collective will be present for both events, making comments on the performances and creating public discussions around the presented gestures and performances. Their long term commitment to establishing an international platform for ‘performing politics’ in the public space of Cali, will serve as a starting point to address the most urgent topics and issues around the use of performance as an active tool in contemporary society.
