Moser & Schwinger
Thursday 4 March 2010 at 7pm at Kadist Art Foundation. Through working on historical facts the films made by Frederic Moser and Philippe Schwinger tell us about the war, the hypocrisy of social relations and the desire of disillusioned utopia. They do that using fiction. In fact, both artists could apply the idea of Jacques Rancière in which “The real must be fictionalized to be thought”. Indeed, once the “fact” has been chosen,their work begins by writing a script based on a study specifically documented behaviors, attitudes, and contexts of the original sequence of events. But they turn away, rework and replay, creating a distance that, paradoxically, it gets closer to our ability of trial. Frederick Moser (1966) and Philippe Schwinger (1961) created in 1988 in Lausanne “Workshop here and now”, an independent theater company they ran until 1991. In 1993-98 they studied at the School of Visual Arts in Geneva. They got the Federal Prize of Fine Arts (1998-99-2000), and the price YoungArt (2000). In 2001, they were fellows of the Academy Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart and in 2003 they were invited to inaugurate the residency program at the Art Centre Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw. They represented Switzerland at the Biennale of Sao Paulo in 2004. Since 2002 they live and work in Berlin. Their work is presented in numerous museums and art centers: 2004 Capitulation Project, Cornerhouse Manchester, 2006 Farewell Letter to the Swiss Workers, Kunsthaus Zürich, 2007 Will History repeat Itself, Kunst-Werke Berlin, 2008, Before me blur After me the deluge, Mamco Geneva. In parallel, they participate in film festivals such as Locarno, Rotterdam, London, etc..
