Em'kal Eyongakpa sonic lecture/performance - CANCELED

Due to unforeseen travel difficulties, this event has been canceled. Em’kal Eyongakpa sonic lecture/performance KADIST and The CCA Wattis Institute of Contemporary Arts are pleased to present a sonic lecture/performance by Em’kal Eyongakpa, a visual and sound artist from Cameroon whose work explores human conditioning over time in relation to ideological consumption, freedom, and identity crises. Eyongakpa’s performance will include elements of his new work-in-progress and a discussion of how percussion shapes his multimedia practice, activating the gallery space in-between exhibitions. The artist’s practice involves sound and installation, environmental acoustics formed through layered compositions that respond to natural elements and atmospheric conditions. These polyrhythmic interventions have included dripping water, recordings of rivers, and musical instruments. Eyongakpa reconstructs these fragmented materials, generating live sets that feel like entire ecosystems. The event follows a production residency at KADIST San Francisco and precedes the group exhibition Drum Listens to Heart which will be on view at The Wattis from September 1, 2022, to March 4, 2023, and includes a new multimedia installation by Eyongakpa. Attendance is free. Capacity is limited, with seating available. Masks and proof of vaccination are required.
