Zarouhie Abdalian
The first iteration of Flutter was specifically conceived for the Pro Arts Gallery space in Oakland in 2010, and the version acquired by the Kadist Collection is an adaptation of it. The gallery piece consists of a text and a window installation of stretched mylar panels. The mylar panels respond to subaudio sine sweeps amplified and transmitted through tactile transducers. Subjected to the sine sweeps, the mylar quivers, ripples, and shakes. Structural uncertainty, experienced in the out-of-control oscillation of the window work and evoked in the reading of the text, is the subject of this piece.
