Viviane Maghela

Viviane Maghela will be in research residency at KADIST, Paris in March 2022. Viviane Maghela is a cultural activist and independent curator based in Cameroon. Her training is marked by three years of residencies at ArtBakery, an art centre located in Bonendale, a small village a few kilometres from Douala and founded by the late artist Goddy Leye. ArtBakery offered training and residencies for emerging artists and art critics with a focus on multimedia, video and digital art practices. Today, Viviane Maghela is the artistic director of the Douala Art Fair and has just co-curated the exhibition “Exit: Tribute to Goddy Leye” organised by the French Institute of Cameroon and presented in ten art spaces in the country. Viviane Maghela’s research residency at KADIST will focus on the legacy left by the Cameroonian artist Goddy Leye: conservation of the works, sharing of the artist’s archives, future of the ArtBakery, creation of a “Goddy Leye Prize” to support a young generation of Cameroonian artists, creation of the Mbot Art Center, a mobile art space in the image of Goddy Leye’s “Exit Tour”.
