In 2011 Kadist SF featured a growing collection of international art magazines, that opened as a public reading room every Saturday afternoon from 11am to 5pm. The reading room was a resource for Kadist SF residencies as well as local artists and interested researchers in the San Francisco Bay Area, providing access to dozens of unique, or difficult to find art serials. The Saturday hours provided a public space for reading and discussion, and a pop-up shop in collaboration with the magazine-in-residence, twice each year. The furniture was designed and made by artist Scott Oliver. The following year, the Reading evolved into a shop. Hybridizing store and library, it loosely addressed the current state of publishing internationally. The Reading Shop made available selected art books and magazines and created a space for public readership.
