Hikaru Fujii
Artist and filmmaker Hikaru Fujii (born in 1976) lives and works in Tokyo. His interest lies in the relationship between art and social activism. Through films and installations, he undertakes extensive research and fieldwork to investigate existing systems and structures, and to probe into hegemonic power embedded in social relations and discourses. Rather than presenting his research matter-of-fact, his work attempts to reinterpret events from contemporary issues and perspectives, exploring the potentiality for political resistance. Since 2011, the artist has been engaging with the shifting situation of crisis triggered by Great East Japan Earthquake and the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident. Hikaru Fujii will be in residency in November 2018 at KADIST Paris, during which he will continue his project Les nucléaires et les choses , focusing on the emptied Futaba Town Museum of History and Folklore, located in the “difficult to return” zone, considered as a point of departure and a ground for speculation. This new work will be presented in a solo show at KADIST Paris in Spring 2019 in the framework of the KADIST Curatorial Collaboration with the MOT, Museum of Contemporary art in Tokyo. His works are regularly shown in exhibitions in Japan and abroad including Mori Art Museum, Tokyo; ISCP, New York City; National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul; Onassis Cultural Centre, Athens; Aomori Contemporary Art Centre, Japan, among others.
